Ah, Wales. I can't go because I'm not allowed the time off and because I can't afford the diesel.

If I hear one more thing about this BPSA vs BSA crap I shall scream. Sort it the fuck out.

It's flat.

bags

Being a bit thick, forgot to mentino that we don't seem to have anywhere that will take plastic bags for recycling round here. And I'd rather not use them anyway.

No surfing today - hail and wind wind wind. I've never seen the Bay so story. Ah well - off to the Bore tomorrow if my van comes out of the garage!!

new phrase

If it swells, ride it - seen on a car sticker by Laurz. Love it.

Not much to ride today but going for a Fistral paddle anyway in a bit.

Have decided to have cheerleader theme for birthday - never seen it in Newks, allows short skirts, glitter and legwarmers and general silliness. People who don't want to act like a child can just wear a skirt and tshirt, so everyone should be happy.

bags

So I've got a stacker and a hessian bag for my supermarket trips. I feel eco-good. But then it occured to me that even Lidl, who don't hand out placcy bags, still make you put your fruit and veg in a thin little bag. I buy a lot of fruit and veg. What to do? Shall I start re-using them? Cos they inevitably just break. I might get some little tubs instead, light as possible. Marg tubs? Hm.

I also think this should be brought to people's attention. A 'bag for life' is not enough if you really wanna reduce plastic consumption.

Must think on it when it's not 6pm and I still have an hour at work. At least. Deadline hell.

anticipation

Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.
- Albert Einstein, 1879 - 1955

Had the best surf at Fistral this morning! It looked big by the one person in, but the Bay was small and I’m sick of the Bay it sucks…So despite our looming deadlines I fucked work off and shot down there at 8. Only two others out though a few more joined us; a nice three feet or so (the odd eek! one) with discernable peaks, hardly a breathe of wind and warm sunlight.

Caught a good first wave, a steep left. Couple of others, one nice right which just wasn’t long enough. Hit the bottom really hard on another steep left takeoff and got thrown around. Suit is too warm, might need a 4/3 for this globally-warmed land.

Didn’t want to get out but things to do! Work, lots of! Editor ‘was really impressed’ with a piece of mine, stoked, and I have been given responsibility for another regular piece (not rocket science but I shall stamp myself all over it all right).

Planning sunset cocktails at the Headland Hotel (oh, get us!) then home to change and gather the troops around a large bottle of vodka, one of cider and my offering of Stella. (Rach’s last night out, and she’s getting over-excited already!) I am thinking of a very small brown skirt with boots and t-shirt. Then a little dancy-dance in Walky, Bedouin Soundclash are pretty funky! And lots of chat as everyone who matters will be there! ;-) Abs, Laurz, Rach, the Irie lot, Mark and co…oh and the boss, but she’s seen me druuunk before.

All in all an excellent day so far, and to come. And Slut2 is in the garage being tarted up by VW lovers.

sunday wind

Another Bay day, didn't fancy the huge paddle at Fistral…Tolcarne looked nice but really wasn't. Caught one shit wave, got blown back off countless others! Frustrating…no-one getting much though. Another paddle fitness exercise I suppose. Van going into the garage on Weds so it'll pump I suppose.

boat

One crap surf on Saturday but the weather was beautiful so I didn't mind too much. At least I didn't have to compete on Fistral - it was hideous out there.

There's a 30ft boat going begging and I WANT it but I've no trailer to take it away so probably not this time! Have always wanted to live on a boat. Furtle might not be so keen?

dragons

Surf was PERFECT. Only 2ft really, but peaky, clean, not crowded, not cold, not closing out. Tolcarne this is. Saw a set and thought, that'll do, forget anywhere else.
A few bigger sets came through which were a pain to duckdive but nothing very challenging, which is good cos the (short) paddleout nearly killed me. Dog walking and yoga is not cardio…
Anyway i had 4 decent waves, although nothing pushing it. Enjoyed it very much. Tide was pushing so it got wedgy and weird like it does there, but I like that. Last wave was steep as and I hit the lip, board went shorewards and I cartwheeled over the back. Fun.

Twitter not working quite yet…I made the mistake of announcing that I had nothing to do work-wise. Now I have. Lots.

poetry

Terry Eagleton for The Times:

“Whereas civilised types stare through the window of language to the world beyond, poets are fascinated by the pattern of dents and scratches on the windowpane, and by the cool feel of the glass on the fingerpads.”

Black Google

Did you know that a cathode ray tube (CRT) monitor uses about 74 watts to display an all white web page, but only uses 59 watts to display an all black page? Worldwide, about 25 percent of the monitors currently in use are cathode ray tubes, which means that they waste energy displaying white backgrounds. This can add up for sites with a global audience.

Take at look at Google, for instance, which gets about 200 million queries a day. If each query is about 10 seconds, Google is running for about 550,000 hours every day. That's about $75,000/year. from Treehugger
