books

Having been to London I had time on the flight and train to read, yippee!

Property, Valerie Martin
Slavery novel, from the point of view of a planter's wife who hates him and the life. Orange nominated which probably made my expectations unrealistic; after Toni Morrison and similar it doesn't really match up. Still a really good read, I read it in one sitting. Some incongruous scenes. Rather an anti-heroine too but intriguing and pacy. Ending was a total hang. Sounds like i didn't enjoy it at all, but the writing is really good. 7/10

The Single Girl's Guide, Imogen Lloyd Webber
Not fiction, but a great funny read to remind you of why it's great to be single and how to deal with those who don't share that view, as well as the rest of the hectic SG's life. An uplifting read, not self-help style but spot on, even for a country surf chick as opposed to a shoe-loving city gal. Great anecdotes, sound advice. Maybe not enough about men and sex? Or that might be her planned sequel…(or it might just be me…) 7/10

Still no surf, though there might be some windswell around tonight (I just couldn't be bothered last night, 1ft of slop). The last session was indeed the night after the windswell session, and Josh, Laura and I enjoyed it quite a lot. Nice to catch a decent wave in front of a pro! But where, where is the real, honest, groundswell?? I have bought a Speedo in duty free and will take out my frustrations at the pool. Dragonplayer thinks I don't love him, though I have bought him a posh boardbag and am contemplating more fins. Waves is what we both need.

Surfstock was amazing, fun, mad (and a little bit argh too); I went too hard and it took about a week (and caning the inhaler) to recover. Pics on MySpaz…it don't get much more random. (Hello? What are you trying to do?)

Camera LCD dead, so have to be careful how I use it now and won't be able to show as many pics. Boo.

goody

I just got a payrise!! Not huge but guess what I'm going to buy myself as a congratulations pressie? If you can't guess you've never read this blog before.

Hoping the winds go good for Saturday. Sunday I won't be in any fit state.

Glasto was amazing. If there was a beach nearby I'd never leave those fields (that doesn't make sense).

Oh, and the nose will be fixed in Feb by a very nice ENT surgeon who thought me a very good candidate.

doga

Doga
Aww…and also, Americans are completely hatstand.

Super excited, have contacted the coach I want to coach and video me, please please don't be too expensive (but I know he's good). Trying out a quad for our wonderful summer waves, 9/10 shapers agree they kick ass. Credit card? Yep. Then Edenism for some hedonism, Rairbirds and Tom Middleton (alt Rootjoose and Aphex Twin).

anticipation

Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.
- Albert Einstein, 1879 - 1955

Had the best surf at Fistral this morning! It looked big by the one person in, but the Bay was small and I’m sick of the Bay it sucks…So despite our looming deadlines I fucked work off and shot down there at 8. Only two others out though a few more joined us; a nice three feet or so (the odd eek! one) with discernable peaks, hardly a breathe of wind and warm sunlight.

Caught a good first wave, a steep left. Couple of others, one nice right which just wasn’t long enough. Hit the bottom really hard on another steep left takeoff and got thrown around. Suit is too warm, might need a 4/3 for this globally-warmed land.

Didn’t want to get out but things to do! Work, lots of! Editor ‘was really impressed’ with a piece of mine, stoked, and I have been given responsibility for another regular piece (not rocket science but I shall stamp myself all over it all right).

Planning sunset cocktails at the Headland Hotel (oh, get us!) then home to change and gather the troops around a large bottle of vodka, one of cider and my offering of Stella. (Rach’s last night out, and she’s getting over-excited already!) I am thinking of a very small brown skirt with boots and t-shirt. Then a little dancy-dance in Walky, Bedouin Soundclash are pretty funky! And lots of chat as everyone who matters will be there! ;-) Abs, Laurz, Rach, the Irie lot, Mark and co…oh and the boss, but she’s seen me druuunk before.

All in all an excellent day so far, and to come. And Slut2 is in the garage being tarted up by VW lovers.
