You can download my CV here (Word format).
After graduating from the University of Wales, Cardiff, with a BA and MA in English Literature I worked in the University of Wales, Aberystwyth IT department for a couple of years before travelling in Australia.
I am currently employed by Orca Publications who publish CARVE, SurfGirl and ThreeSixty surfing and bodyboarding magazines. I am the Assistant Editor of SurfGirl and Sub-Editor and feature writer for CARVE and ThreeSixty. I edit and proofread all the copy that comes to the magazines. I write all the competition reports as well as interviewing for and researching features, travel articles, news pieces and promotional material. I also contribute captions, standfirsts, headlines and coverlines. The company is a small one and as such the role is varied and challenging.
I have responsibility for the content of the SurfGirl website which involves maintaining the blog, news area of the site and creating special features and content for the rest of the site.
I also take on freelance and voluntary projects, especially ones that come close to my passions: surfing, the environment, literature, travel and technology.
Some examples of my work can be found here:
My main job is at Orca Publications: www.orcasurf.co.uk - I create and maintain content including news stories, blog, forums and articles. See the SurfGirl blog or for an example of an article, 'Wax on, wax off'.
I write a huge amount of material for the print versions of SurfGirl and CARVE and examples are available on request. You can download a PDF of an article from SurfGirl: 'How To Survive The Winter'
I have had a textbook for high school students published. It deals with how to read, analyse and (hopefully) appreciate poetry and is on sale from KBS, entitled 'Poetry Analysis'
I have had a book review published in New Woman magazine (the book wasn't great but I managed to be balanced about it!).
MyVillage contributor. Example - Festival Review
I am currently writing a piece on sweatshop clothing in the surf industry for the soon-to-be-relaunched Eco Surf Project website.
I have written several articles about local places of interest for the upcoming Cornwall area of the Discovery Travel Network site such as one on the town of Truro.
I was highly commended in a Samaritans competition where entrants had to address the problem of stress in a creative way.
I've done some pieces for the BBC Wales surfing site as well:
Article about women's surf coaching
Portugal – a travel piece for this community portal.
Aberystwyth Learning and Teaching Online - maintained as part of my post at UWA. See especially the Blackboard support materials. I also created and maintained many courses on Blackboard to support e-learning initiatives within the institution. I learned so much about education, computers, the internet and people! I taught myself to code and use Flash and Dreamweaver, and took a Photoshop course. While there I created The VITS Tutorial - an E-learning module in Flash in Welsh and English which was super-challenging but great fun.
